In 2005 I found some old engravings from the 1870s travels of a german scientist by the name of Peters to Madagascar that feature several bug species of the island. As I was searching for a nice framing I ran into a shop that provides educational material for schools, apart from other things the owner had masses of prepared bugs and even some of the same sort printed on my engravings. So I decides to fill-in the old engravings in a kind of “panini-pictures” style – details are found in the pics. Some of those bugs are fascinating when observed from very close, even though the needling of insects tells another story of men trying to control and measure the teeming energy of nature. Sound excerpt is from an old sono taxis version.
Bugs in a Box

I’m Andreas Bick. I compose and I work with sound. This is my acoustic notebook. You can find my thoughts about books and CDs I like and some sound recordings I did on the way. (I also practise my english writing skills here, so excuses for the mistakes I make...) Silent listening is about the fringes of music, the periphery where music turns into sheer sound - concrete, wild, sometimes stunningly beautiful.
